Acceptance and the sense of being wanted are two desires that lie in the heart of each and every human being. It seems as if we make the choices, say the words, and perform the actions we do all in hopes of feeling needed to someone. We largely allow the opinions of those around us to determine the way we think of ourselves. We allow the world to tell us who we are. Unfortunately, the world is corrupted and polluted with falsehoods. The message that so many of us receive, and continue to receive, from those around us is, "you're not wanted here." "you're ugly." "you're worthless." "you're a mistake." "you're a joke." The world hurls these words at us, and eventually we begin to believe them. We look for our identity and our value everywhere except the God who gave us our existince and our true identity to begin with. We search for our true value and worth in seemingly good places, such as sports, academics, even religion for that matter. However, when none of those gave us identity or worth to begin with, there is no way that they can restore the sense of worth that we so desprately crave. We will only find who we actually are in Christ, the giver of life. It is Christ, the Truth Himself, who restores to us our knowledge of our true value.
